Name: Ryan Alurick
Nickname: N/A
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Rank: Pokemon Trainer
Birthplace: Village Bridge, Unova
Battle Style: Usually Ryan will have his Pokemon start out with intimidation, if there are techniques or natural abilities that allow them to do so. Also, since he plans on specializing in Dark-type Pokemon, he tries to have his Pokemon learn moves that reflect the trickery that Dark-types possess. Serpentine Pokemon are also among his favorites, and he'll have them use moves that restrict their opponent's movement or afflict with a status condition before they try to go in for the KO. For these reasons, his Pokemon may also use poison to cripple their opponent then capitalizing on it if possible. His team isn't completely dependent on weather either, so while some of his Pokemon may favor certain weather conditions over others (depending on the individual Pokemon) it is rare that they change the weather for their benefit, though not unheard of. Some of his Pokemon prefer some time to boost themselves and will usually do this while their opponent is crippled via the main strategies as already discussed.
Looks: His face has a slight scar above his left eyebrow, presumably from the incident which caused him to take a hiatus in his Pokemon journey, and he has short, brown hair and blue eyes. He's usually seen with a light gray shirt and dark slacks, though he also has T-shirts of other colors and may wear shorter pants if it's hot enough. For his feet, he wears white socks and dark gray tennis shoes, typical footgear for a Pokemon trainer. When travelling on a colder day, he wears a dark jacket with a black hood that has a red feather sticking out on the left side, resembling a Sneasel's ear feather. If it's really cold, he'll stick with ... not going outdoors for a while; he's not a fan of cold weather.
Personality: Ryan keeps to himself mostly and isn't very outgoing. His compassion towards Dark-type Pokemon and Snake Pokemon--arguably the two most misunderstood kinds of Pokemon in existence--is reflected in the way he treats people. He may not go out of his way to meet new people, but with those he encounters he tries to understand them enough so he knows whether or not he could gain an honest friend. This may be why he considers Megan from the other side of Village Bridge a good friend more than a rival. He still gets into some good arguments with her, though, especially when the subject of favorite Pokemon is brought into question. He just can't figure out why she likes cats and Psychic and Fairy-types so much! (though it may stem from her living on the other side of the bridge...)
History: Ryan Alurick hails from Village Bridge in Eastern Unova, where colonies of Zangoose and Seviper have lived since the bridge was developed over 200 years ago. Animosity between the two Pokemon is still around due to their natural instincts, though the fights they get into aren't quite as violent as the ones experienced by their cousins in the native continent of Hoenn. This relative amount of peace only happens because they try to keep to their own territories, with Seviper living on the west side of the river and Zangoose on the east. Naturally, as the human community grew with the two Pokemon, the culture these Pokemon shared spilled into that of the humans, with people living on the east side of the bridge preferring Zangoose and residents on the west side with a love for Seviper, though there isn't as much animosity between the humans as there is between the Pokemon. And since Ryan was born in a home on the west side, it's no wonder he likes snakes!
As soon as he turned ten, he set off for Nuvema Town so he could get his first Pokemon from Professor Juniper, and his obvious choice of starter was the female Snivy now named Elsa. However, in Accumula Town, he was run over by a car that would have run over and killed a wild Purrloin had he not saved the cat. This had indeed gathered attention, but the last words he heard before he blacked out struck a chord in him: "This kid risked his life for a mangy Dark-type? It's a stray, he should've just let it die..." He was bedridden for years thanks to a complication with the needed surgery, (Elsa was able to keep him company the entire time, and his family and his childhood friend, Megan, made regular visits) but made a full recovery soon after he turned 18. However, instead of resuming his Pokemon journey, he decided to spend a few years at a university studying all about Dark-type Pokemon and learning just what made them so hated among the general public. During his uni life he also had some time to bond with Elsa and train her a little so she was able to learn a few more attacks when he was ready to resume his Pokemon journey. Once he graduated from university, he was finally ready to begin again, but instead of going for gyms something inside him told him to start off in the Orre region, where the Colosseums were. With that in mind, he took Elsa with him and got on a boat that would take him to Gateon Port...
