Into the New World Empty Into the New World

The air was fresh, and Alice Hope found it unusual. As she slumbered, the twenty year old inhaled, taking in the salty, ocean breeze. It rustled the trees and brush around her, the platinum blonde hair that had been tied into a ponytail, even more of a mess. For an adult, she was a tiny thing at only four foot seven, and this was even more obvious when lying down. However, it wasn’t long before her pose changed.

Groaning, the pasty figure suddenly came round, deep blue eyes slowly blinking behind the lenses of her glasses. Her head pounded, and she felt both hungry and thirsty. It was then that Alice realised she was no longer in bed, or in any kind of room, but a lush tropical forest, rays of sunlight breaking through the greenery. Her stomach lurched, head complaining again as the young female swung upwards, peering around the clearing in complete and utter fright.

Peering down at herself, glossy lips parting in horror, she noticed she was suddenly clothed, too. Her torso was adorned in a marine striped, cropped tee, the lower half in stylishly tattered white shorts. Around her dainty left wrist was a Poketch, and her neck, a device resembling a Pokegear. Both ears had piercings in: black and silver half hoops, and not too far away from a black leather shoulder bag were a pair of sandals with a slight heel, grey-silver in the colour of their straps. Alice just sat, still, unable to move, for a while. She could hear birds, the rustling of leaves, the crashing of the waves and gentle trickling of a nearby stream.

“Slow...” Something else caught her attention. Now sat by the bag was a pink hippo, sandy jaw slack and wide open, his eyes just as wide, and staring right at her. Alice stared again, heart racing wildly. A Slowpoke. Clothes and things she didn’t own. A forest or jungle or something.

Well. She had finally cracked.

Into the New World Empty Re: Into the New World

Post by Marion Ette Fri Jun 14, 2013 5:13 pm

Alice awakens in a world far different from the small apartment in England she left behind; blue skies peek at Alice through the foliage of the dense forest, as the young woman catches the scent of the ocean wafting through the smells of the various tropical flowers surrounding her. Was it possible that she could be dreaming? No, no, this felt too real... Had she been out drinking last night? Did she somehow stumble onto a cruise ship while massively drunk and get thrown off onto this island when it was discovered she didn't belong? It was preposterous idea, and yet the whole situation was preposterous. Why the strange clothes, the strange items... And why was there a real live Slowpoke here? Perhaps Alice had finally gone completely mad, as her therapists often seemed to imply she had done in the past. Even so, Alice could not shake the feeling that this land was somehow familiar to her, as if from a far-off memory.

The Slowpoke tilts his head a bit, regarding Alice with great curiosity. After a few moments of making Alice feel rather uncomfortably stared at, the slow creature eventually seems to decide that he likes the confused girl, a wide grin forming on his face. Sloooooow, he says, presumably in greeting, as he slowly, carefully lifts a paw and waves hello with it. At least the creature seemed to be friendly... Perhaps he knew something about this strange situation, though admittedly, the Slowpoke didn't really appear like the type to know much of anything. Granted, looks can be deceiving...

Looking around, Alice can see that, at least where she's standing, the woods are pretty much deserted. There appear to be no signs of any human life in the immediate vicinity. Alice could try investigating the island to look for clues as to her strange new location and attempt to reorient herself, or she could stay and try talking to the odd Slowpoke... Given the faint sound of the water, the nearest coastline was likely to the East of where she was standing, meaning that West would most assuredly lead deeper into the forest.

What will Alice do?

Alice stared for a little longer, watching the wave of the Slowpoke like it were the motion of a toy. She was struggling to believe what she saw, needless to say. Still, the temptation to leave was smaller than her fear of going anywhere and doing anything.

"I... Hey there." She greeted back softly, hesitantly, in that stereotypical accent of hers. The trainer accompanied the motion with a wave of her hand, noticing the glittery polish on her manicured nails. Huh. "I was wondering - if you knew where we are? Or whose stuff all of this is?" She indicated the clothing and the bag, crouching down very, very slowly. "Can you even talk...?"

Maybe. It was her own delusion, after all.

Into the New World Empty Re: Into the New World

Alice decides against going exploring for now; after all, there was no telling what she would find in this unknown wilderness. Best to stick with the one friendly face in the area, even if that face happened to be that of a Pokemon.

Alice returns the Slowpoke's friendly wave with a hesitant greeting in a posh English accent, inquiring of the creature whether he happened to know where they were, or whose stuff she happened to be carrying, or if he could even talk at all. The Slowpoke tilts his head to one side for a moment, contemplating the three questions for what seems to be a painfully long amount of time. Suddenly, his eyes widen with what appears to be a revelation! Alice excitedly looks on as she waits for the Slowpoke to do something, only to find herself staring at an unmoving, unblinking, wide-eyed Slowpoke for five minutes. Great. Looks as if attempting to communicate with this creature will be an entirely fruitless endeavor.

Suddenly, Alice finds her thoughts interrupted by a very slow, male voice, quiet at first, that gradually becomes louder as her mind's eye clears. -heeear me? Caaaan yooou heeeear meeee? Pleeeeeeeeaaaaseeee annnsweeeeer. Hellooooooooooo? Certainly, the slow, drawn-out voice would make sense for a Slowpoke, but how on Earth was the creature talking inside her mind? The voice continues - III wooouuuld liiike tooo answeeeer your queeeeeestiiiiioooons, buuut IIII thiiiink someoneee is waaatchiiing ussss... The Slowpoke's eyes turn towards a nearby bush - indeed, a pair of ominous, crimson eyes appear to be gleaming from within.

Alice's astonishment only grew. At first she looked around, wondering if the echo could be heard around her, but realised that it was indeed inside her mind after all. Butterfree swirled around her stomach by the dozen, and the young woman fought the sensation to faint.

"I-- I can hear you." The lost female replied uneasily. His voice was interesting - deep, suggesting age, and not exactly young but definitely not too old, either. As he went on, eyes shifting to the brush, Alice gasped, whirling round. Those eyes did not look comforting.

"What-- what do we do?" Her whole body was drawn up tense, ready for flight. "Do we run?!"

Alice tenses up at the sight of the round, red eyes staring directly at her from the brush, and immediately asks the Slowpoke beside her for guidance. Slowpoke looks up at Alice with emotional eyes, clearly expressing concern at her nervousness, as he carefully tries to stand up, taking his sweet time. Weee could tryyy to make friiiiends.... orrr weeee cooould fiiiiight. The Slowpoke gives Alice an embarrased look. Ruunnnniiiinnng iiis nooot my speeeeciiiaaaalllt-

As Slowpoke attempts to convey his message as quickly as he possibly can, he finds that his communication is not nearly quick enough, as a high-pitched laugh begins to echo from the bush. Slowpoke stands firm, ready to confront the source of the laughter, only to be greeted by what appears to be a rubbery pink ball bouncing out from the spot where the eyes once loomed. The ball bounces to and fro, seemingly unable to stop, before it bounces right atop Slowpoke's head. The slow creature stares absent-mindedly for a few moments, before finally thinking out loud; Isss theeereeee someeethiiiing onnn myyyy heeeead?

Indeed, there appears to be something very odd on Slowpoke's head. A pink, rubbery puff of a Pokemon with red, bulging eyes, that looks at Alice with an odd little grin before taking in a deep breath; it looks like she's about to sing...

Running was not Alice's forte at all, either. She ran like a Piplup or Empoleon in a fluster, and given her size, she was not the quickest thing, either. They seemed a suitably tragic pair. "There is. Slowpoke-- it's an Igglybuff!" The trainer exclaimed, stunned. It looked like a cheeky little thing.

"I don't know what attacks you know-- ah! Roll over! Then it'll fall off! We can't let it sing!" Alice cried desperately. "But it's only a baby. Maybe we should try to make friends?" The young girl would love to hear Igglybuff sing, but wondered if, like in the show she knew, it would make her fall into a slumber.
